Leading up to the Shivering songs Festival, I did what I do best… I bombarded people with e-mails and asked them to answer a few questions for me.
Over the next few days I’ll be posting short interviews and video clips of some exciting performers at the festival.
Today is Paul Murphy. You may know him from the band Wintersleep.

Hi Paul! Tell me about yourself and what you do!
Hi Barb. Thanks for doing this. I play in the band Wintersleep, and like to sometimes perform live as Postdata.
Where did the name Postdata come from?
I think I saw the word on my computer screen at some point after almost losing a file. Thought it had a real technological or modern, almost cold ring to it, and thought it was nice juxtaposed against the music, which feels sorta folky and hopefully warm for the most part.
Where does your songwriting inspiration come from?
Books? Real life? Songs that don’t fit with your other band?
Yeah. I think I draw from as much as I can. Playing guitar a lot. Music, Books, movies, and “real life” too of course.
Tell me why you’re excited to be playing during the Shivering Songs festival
Really big fan of Mark Kozelek. Excited to see him play. Big fan of Fredericton too, and the people who organize the festival are really good people, trying to do a good thing with this, so it is a really nice thing to be a part of.
I feel very lucky.
What are your three favourite songs right now?
Stay Lit by Holy Fuck. Palaces of Montezuma by Grinderman, and a song called “To Love” that Jon Samuel just recorded, but hasn’t released yet. Fresh :)

Awesome.
I’m really looking forward to seeing Paul play Saturday night with Mark Kozelek.
